Terms of Use

Effective August 5, 2026

These Terms govern your use of Sightline. The short version: this is an informational tool, not legal advice — always confirm with the city before you submit a permit or fabricate a sign. The full terms below explain accounts, billing, acceptable use, and what happens if something goes wrong.

1. Agreement to Terms

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Sightline ("Sightline," "we," "us," or "our"), governing your access to and use of sightlinecode.com and the Sightline application (together, the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Sightline is currently operated by an individual sole proprietor doing business as "Sightline," not a registered corporation or LLC.

2. What Sightline is — and isn't

Sightline provides Colorado sign-code and sign-permit information organized by street address and zoning district, along with an optional permit-tracking workspace. Every figure we show is checked against the text of the relevant city's published, adopted code before it is published, and we clearly flag information that has not yet been verified.

Sightline is an informational tool, not legal advice, and not a substitute for review by the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).

Municipal codes change, parcels can be subject to overlays, planned developments, or historic district rules not fully captured by our data, and errors are possible despite our best efforts. You are solely responsible for confirming any sign-code or permit information with the applicable city or county before finalizing a design, fabricating a sign, or submitting a permit application. Do not rely on Sightline as your only source before making a legal, financial, or safety-related decision.

3. Accounts

To use certain features, you must create an account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate information and keep it up to date;
  • Keep your password confidential and be responsible for all activity under your account;
  • Notify us promptly at urbanemarketingcompany@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

You must be at least 18 years old and using the Service for a legitimate business purpose to create an account.

4. Subscriptions, credits, and billing

Sightline offers free and paid subscription tiers, described on our pricing page. Paid plans include a monthly allotment of lookup credits; additional lookups beyond your plan's allotment may be billed at the per-credit rate shown on the pricing page at the time of use. Once payment processing is live:

  • Subscriptions renew automatically each billing period until canceled;
  • You may cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and we do not provide prorated refunds for partial periods except where required by law;
  • We may change our pricing with reasonable advance notice to active subscribers; continued use after a price change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the new price;
  • Payment is processed by a third-party payment processor; Sightline does not store your full card number.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Scrape, crawl, harvest, or systematically extract data from the Service by any automated means outside of the interfaces we provide;
  • Use the Service to build, train, or populate a competing sign-code, permitting, or zoning database or product;
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service, except to the extent applicable law expressly permits;
  • Share your account credentials with anyone outside your organization, or use the Service on behalf of anyone other than your own organization without our written permission;
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to it or its related systems;
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that infringes the rights of others.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section.

6. Intellectual property

The organization, formatting, calculators, citations, and presentation of code and permitting information on Sightline, along with the Sightline name, logo, and branding, are the property of Sightline and protected by applicable intellectual property law. The underlying municipal codes and public zoning data themselves remain the property of, and publicly available from, the issuing city, county, or public agency — Sightline does not claim ownership of the underlying law. Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the Service for your own business purposes.

7. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT ANY SIGN-CODE OR PERMIT INFORMATION PROVIDED THROUGH THE SERVICE IS COMPLETE, CURRENT, OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE. YOU ASSUME ALL RISK ASSOCIATED WITH RELYING ON INFORMATION PROVIDED THROUGH THE SERVICE WITHOUT INDEPENDENT VERIFICATION FROM THE AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION.

8. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SIGHTLINE AND ITS OPERATOR WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IN NO EVENT WILL SIGHTLINE'S TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID SIGHTLINE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Sightline and its operator harmless from any claim, demand, loss, or damages, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party — including any claim arising from a permit, design, or construction decision made in reliance on information from the Service without independent verification.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, with or without notice, for conduct that violates these Terms, poses a security risk, or for any other reason at our discretion, including discontinuing the Service entirely. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination — including Sections 6–9 and 11–14 — will survive.

11. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Colorado, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. Each party is responsible for its own attorneys' fees except as a court may otherwise order.

12. Changes to the Service and these Terms

We may modify or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. We may update these Terms from time to time; if we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify account holders. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

13. General

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full effect. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent; we may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Sightline regarding the Service.
